The Piranesi Award Call is launched in mid-September each year. The purpose of the call is to select the realised architectural works that will compete for the Piranesi Award and the Piranesi Honourable Mentions at the Piranesi International Architecture Exhibition, organised as part of the Piranesi Days of Architecture international conference.
The Piranesi Award recognises the best architectural realisations and student works produced in the last two years in the Central European region. The participating countries are Austria, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, the Czech Republic, Greece, Hungary, Italy, Montenegro, Slovakia, Slovenia, Serbia and Serbia. The participating universities are Graz, Spittal, Vienna, Banja Luka, Mostar, Sarajevo, Split, Zagreb, Thessaloniki, Budapest, Ferrara, Pescara, Trieste, Podgorica, Bratislava, Ljubljana, Maribor, Belgrade, Novi Sad, Kragujevac, Lucerne, Vaduz, and AA London.
Architects from the above countries submit their work to the national selectors of their country. They can submit works built in their country or abroad. Each national selector will select and nominate 5 realised architectural works by architects from their country, built in the last two years.
Students of the above-mentioned architecture faculties can apply to the student selectors of their faculty. Each student selector will select and nominate two realised or unrealised projects by students of their faculty, created in the last two academic years.
Projects that have already been nominated by the Piranesi selectors and presented at the Piranesi exhibition may not be resubmitted.
The selectors have the right to make their own proposals. The nominated projects are announced at the end of October each year.
The selected nominees will be informed of their nomination in due time by the selector or the organiser. According to the instructions, they will have to prepare their exhibition poster in pdf format and send it (via WeTransfer) to the organiser's print shop by 4 November.
Only nominated architects and students will be allowed to participate in Piranesi if they have paid by 24 October the exhibition fee, which covers the cost of printing the posters, the cost of setting up and organising the exhibition, and the cost of organising the Piranesi jury.
The call will be published at the beginning of September 2025.
