In a time of accelerating climate change, we will increasingly face extreme weather events in the future, such as the August 2023 floods in the Črna na Koroškem, region of Carinthia. These have exposed shortcomings in spatial planning and resilience. Design studio Glažar took an interdisciplinary approach to the transformation of the Mežica Valley, with a focus on Črna na Koroškem, in the academic year 2023/24. "In our projects, students worked on integrated sustainable solutions, post-flood reconstruction and increasing the resilience of the place. In urban-architectural planning, we looked at space through different scales: XL - regional, L - municipal, M - local and S - micro-locational, which allowed us to have a holistic understanding of the whole as well as of the individual parts."
